Resources Working Group

This group is for brainstorming, creating, and disseminating resources in both physical and digital formats. We are interested in creating merchandise (t-shirts, buttons, stickers, etc.); information resources (ideas for liturgies, movie/film/book discussions, Bible studies, DIY and how-to’s); and “seed packs” that would be packages containing merchandise and print materials relating to a theme/topic that can be sent in the mail. We intend to use this forum as the primary way our working group meets and discusses things.

You can find more resources at SCM’s Resources Page

New Resource Priorities

Over the past couple of weeks David, Alice, and I have had some phone conversations regarding the production of new resources. Resources were discussed at the Feb. Board Meeting and some priorities were outlined. Perhaps David could summarize them here? I don't have my notes in front of me right now but two current high-priority projects are:

- producing "culture-jamming" stickers
- producing themed "seed packs" of resources

David, Alice and I have been discussing the culture-jamming stickers - they are something we think we can produce fairly soon and perhaps distribute at national conference! Anyone else interested in this project? I have volunteered to contact some print shops and get prices & specs on sticker production. I will post here when I get replies, but I won't have much to report for 2 weeks or so - I'm busy with school right now.

Priorities?

I'm wondering if people's priorities for resources are... what resources do people want soon? What can wait? Can we get started developing resources over the summer?

I mean, I would like to have a project to work on, but I need something specific. Are there other people out there in the same boat?

Or maybe we should ask each other, what resources are you willing to work on? Maybe if we (the resources worg) get started our fabulous work will inspire other SCMers to get creative as well.

Is there a definite ATN theme yet? Perhaps the themes that were discussed but not chosen could be posted as a part of our brainstorm as well... I don't want to see any good ideas die unnecessarily.

Hey Lana!

As one of your group, glad to see this post! I'll look around and see if I can get any work done on how to host a retreat while I start to plan one for January.

Resources Brainstorming Summary from Conference

Here’s a summary of the resource brainstorming we did at National Conference 2007:

• the national Website will be the central location for information / digital resources, and the primary way the resources workgroup meets

• Resources can be physical/material objects or digital files/documents. We should work on producing “Resource Seed Packs” with specific themes of both types.

• The Resource Workgroup is responsible for coordinating the creation of these Seed Packs and creating some of them; some local units or individuals could create some. Distribution of digital seed packs could happen via the website; creation and distribution of material seed packs would need to be discussed for each pack when it is ready to be produced.

• Seed Pack themes: (seed pack was a term we came up with at National Conference for a themed collection / package of resource materials.)

- SOA (School of America) Pilgrimage (Gillian will create)

- Starting / Maintaining a Local Unit

- Activism (links to Anti-Oppression ‘zine & workgroup; there could be different types of activism packs with specific themes like Environment; Politics; etc.; links to the solidarity with the Philippines movement; themes like “Religion, Spirituality, & Disabiltiy”, etc.; also lists of movies, books, artworks, etc. of interest to SCM ideals

- Queer & Christian

- Fundraising (ideas, letter / grant templates; merchandise)

- How to host a workshop/retreat/large event, etc; all other types of DIY’s and How-tos (could be an extension of the DIY pages on the website- we just need more active contributions)

Physical / Material Resources:

There are a number of extant physical/material resources available already, and we brainstormed ideas for more. Existing resources include: the “Stop Homophobia in the Churches” & SCM pamphlets (in downloadable file & print form); the rainbow Jesus stickers; the “Sometimes Your Patron Saint Isn’t Enough” condom packs; Indulgences, the ABC’s of Jesus poster, etc.

New ideas for merchandise / material stuff includes:

- culture-jamming stickers with text like “What does this say about gender?”; “What does this say about….”; “Is this oppressive?” etc. that could be applied to posters, signs, etc. These could be professionally produced and distributed or made on a local level

- buttons: rainbow Jesus; SCM Justice logo; “Sanford-Beck for Archbishop of Canterbury”; “Who would Jesus bomb?” text & image; etc.

- pamphlets: revising the “what is the SCM” pamphlet or making a new one; “making positive choices in your community” pamphlet / booklet;

* * * * *

This is not a static list, and it is completely flexible! We need more suggestions for Seed Packs and merchandise/material resources; we need contributions to any and all of the packs already suggested; we need people to volunteer to coordinate packs of their choice!
