Senior Friends Involvement

Hello
I have tried to get onto the Senior's page and it doesn't seem to exist. I was wondering what it means to be a senior friend...and what can I participate in and why is there no page? Thank you God Bless

Senior Friends page and involvement

Hello Rev. MacLennan, thanks for your interest in SCM! I'm not sure why you couldn't get onto the Senior Friends page from the sidebar on the left of the website, as it's working for me now (Dec. 5). As for what a senior friend is and what they do, that page describes it pretty well: Senior Friends are mostly SCM alumni, people who were involved in SCM on university and high school campuses when they were students but are not now students. However, I don't think anyone wants to limit the definition, and people can probably be considered Senior Friends if they simply want to be part of the movement but are not currently a student. Senior Friends are involved in the SCM in many ways:

* sitting on a local advisory board
* acting as mentors
* offering financial support
* sitting on the National Board
* sharing various resources with current SCMers
* carrying the history of where the movement has been

All of these, as well as many of the things that SCMers (the students) themselves do: attending SCM events & meetings, being involved with a local unit and its events even if you're not on the advisory board, etc. Every extra person at an event is encouraging!

The best way to get involved (in my opinion) in any capacity, in SCM is to do one of two things: 1) either contact the national office closest to you - there are 2 offices, one in Winnipeg and the other in Toronto - by phone, e-mail, or in person and speaking to the coordinator there (they are very friendly) or 2) using the Contact Us page on the website to find the local unit or allied chaplain closest to you and contacting them to find out about events, who to talk to to get more info, etc. Hope this helps!

Roles for Senior Friends

If you live in Toronto, Winnipeg or Victoria, join the local SCM advisory board. They fundraise and support the work of the students. There will be a WSCF Senior Friends' gathering in Montreal in August 2008. Here is some preliminary info:
