Antiracism & the SCM

This page is associated with our Anti-Oppression Covenant, which recognizes that all forms of oppression are linked and interdependent.

ANTIRACISM & THE SCM

The SCM is committed to educating ourselves and others about racism. Racism is still systemic and pervasive in our society, but too often white people are unable to see it because of privilege.

SCM has recognized the need to challenge racism and privilege. We are currently in process of addressing issues of white privilege and racism in our communities.

Building specific commitments and policies will be part of our work at National Conference 2005.

The following resources have been helpful to us.

  • We are all interrelated, with an underlying commonality rooted in the sacredness of the cosmos

  • Expect to learn from your mistakes
  • Accept the fact of conflict
